Boise Idaho Portrait Photographer: Color of Disease

When you're given an assignment to focus on the technical aspects of color, composition, and exposure, all while creating a series with some kind of meaning, but no further instructions than that, it's definitely what one might call challenging. After stewing over different ideas, non of which felt right, I (with the help of a good friend) was able to dig a little deeper.

With thousands upon thousands of disease, deformities, and disorders existing in the world, it's hard to find a single person who hasn't been affected in some way, by one or more of them. It's not just the individuals physically battling with the disease who feel it's effects. In each case there is someone close to that individual whose own life is changed and enveloped by the results of that disease, both in good ways and in bad.

Each individual captured in this series has felt the effects of these diseases. Bluish green represents Uterine Cancer. This is the cancer that took my grandmother's life when my mom was only eight years old. The effects of that shaped my mothers life and in turn shaped the lives of my siblings and myself. Red, a representation of Heart Disease is family condition, forever hovering over the heads of each person in that blood line. Orange represents Leukemia. A disease that is painful for any sister, cousin, or friend to watch. Purple represents Pancreatic Cancer, a cancer with a four percent survival rate, which takes the lives of both young and old, father and grandfather. Yellow represents Spina Bifida, a deformity which occurs during a babies development which can leave them paralyzed from the waist down. Although it may not kill them, that child will always be different from that of their friends.

Boise Idaho Sports Photographer - Ride Hard, Crash Hard, Repeat

No amount of research can prepare you for the thing you may encounter in Action Sports Photography. One minute your subject will be flying through the air and the next they'll be sprawled out on the ground. And then you'll get back up and try again. This actually occurred while I was following around these two great guys. :-D It's things like that, that make BMX worth shooting. No, no! Not because I got to watch epic crashes, that would just be mean if I said that's what I enjoyed about it... :-P But rather because there's a rush that comes from never knowing what could happen next or what amazing photos are seconds from being created! I'm constantly looking for the next best thing that will remind me why I love what I do. BMX is definitely that thing.
Thanks to these guy's and their dedication and passion for their sport, I managed to capture some stuff I'm really excited about. I also came to understand that they wake up at the crack of dawn in the freezing cold (the joy's of winter months) to ride because they really love it! For them "No Fear" isn't just a bumper sticker.

My Kitchen Photobooth

I'm back in school.... AHH! Getting an education is hard. Good thing I have at least one enjoyable class.
Although I don't feel like I'm learning anything new, I am getting to take some fun pictures.

Here are some of the photos from my photo montage project. I decided to do things slightly differently then the rest of my class (as I always do things differently) and instead of making a basic collage I turned my kitchen into a photo booth and took photos of my friends and family.

Here are just a few of the outcome! There are many many more to come and because facebook wont let me upload them, I'm resorting to posting them on here. :-) It was definitely time for a new post anyway.

I hope you all enjoy these! I think these might become my new favorite family portrait idea... of course they don't have to all be goofy. :-D

Happy Independence Day!!!!

The festivities have been going for days... as seen by the constant sound of fire works as soon as the sun goes down! This year I was able to celebrate the 4th for a couple of days!
