All around us there are individuals
who are battling with these afflictions firsthand, and there are those closest
to them who have been impacted by their affects as well.
In each case, these are the people whose lives are enveloped and changed, both
in negative and in positive ways.
This series, which started as five
images of individuals whose lives had been changed by their interactions with
someone close to them, quickly expanded into a larger and more revealing
series. Each individual captured in this series has felt the affects of the
disease, disability, or hardship they represent, either personally or through
their relationship with a loved one. The colors they wear all over their skin,
clothes and hair represent the circumstances that have changed them.
If there is one thing I can share
that I have learned through my experience with this series, it's how you allow these changes to affect you which
make the greatest difference. It's possible to look constantly at the past and wish you could
change it, but it is living today and making it beautiful that makes life worth
living.
